Orphanage in Tanzania

Cölbe, 16. December 2011. Each year Wagner & Co supports selected projects with social or environmental backgrounds. This year, Wagner & Co has decided to forgo large Christmas presents for its customers and to instead ensure support for another sustainable aid project in Africa. The idea was well received by customers as well as business partners.

Every year again…
Every year before Christmas we ask ourselves: „What shall we give to the people who are close to our hearts?“ And then begins the hustle and bussle, looking for the perfect gift. Time and again, even companies are no different and face the same question: „Which gift can we offer our customers and business partners to bring joy to them and show them our sincere appreciation?“ But what better present can there be than to give real joy and to share it with others? A lasting joy that does not last for only a few days.

Solar power system for an orphanage in Ilula, Tanzania
For this reason, Wagner & Co this year decided for a particularly lasting as well as sustainable gift: Wagner & Co supports the orphanage project of the nonprofit organization IOP (Ilula Orphan Program) in Ilula, Tanzania, with a solar power system.

The orphanage in Ilula offers street children, many of whom are exposed to numerous hazards, a safe accommodation. The orphanage, however, only has unreliable power supply, and brownouts are common. Every year therefore high fuel and maintenance costs accrue for the operation of a diesel generator. This situation is very unstable and dissatisfying for the orphanage. With the new solar power system, the orphanage can reliably meet its future annual electricity needs. In conjunction with a special water pump the solar installation also enables the orphanage to secure its water supply and even irrigate a vegetable garden. The water pump was donated by the nonprofit – „URBIS FOUNDATION for the environment and international solidarity.“ The money saved by the solar installation will also allow to admit additional children to the orphanage. In spring 2012 Wagner & Co employees will install the solar power system on the roof of the orphanage.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
